MotoSchützen

[moh-toh-shoot-zen]

verb

The act of combining the exhilarating passions of firearms and motorcycles together for several days of adrenalin-filled, action-packed activities with a high dose of beautiful scenery and great comradery.

About MotoSchützen

If you are unfamiliar with just what the MotoSchützen is, you’re in for a surprise.

It’s a week-long gathering of manufacturers from the Hunting and Shooting industry along with a dozen writers and editors from the major outdoor publications. Each day is split between testing new products for the shooting sports and riding motorcycles on some of the best roads and dirt trails in the United States.

“There aren’t many events I’d drive three days -each way- to attend. But Motoschutzen is more than just an industry gathering for me. It’s a collective group of friends who happen to be in the industry and share the same passions for riding and shooting. Along the trails we’ve learned to trust each other, lean on the collective experience, and drop those guards we maintain at “normal” industry happenings. On Motoschutzen, we’re not representing anything except our genuine selves. This year’s event was even more pleasant for me than normal, because I had no experience with Rapid City, the Black Hills, or any of the great places and people we met during our stay. Good friends, good food, good accommodations and great riding…what more could anyone want? I’m already looking forward to Motorschutzen 2022!

Anytime I travel for work I am always glad to finally be home. Motoschützen is the one event every year that I look forward to going back to as soon as I get home.  Amazing friends, fantastic firearms, superb rides, awesome views, and delicious food.
With firearms we attempt to control the projectile to give us a desired result. With motorcycles we simply are the projectile. For me, both acts represent a sense of freedom. That’s why Motoschützen is more than a place we go, or a thing we do.  Motoschützen is a part of who we are.
Never go the same place twice

Inspired by a quote from actor Laurence Fishburne, whether shooting or riding, “you can’t really think about more than where you are” in that moment. There is freedom in that which unites the passions of all who participate in Motoschützen. We enjoy shared experiences, each of us a witness for the other’s proof of life and memories. We depend on one another to overcome obstacles and learn from the collected variety of knowledge. As each event concludes, we’re reminded, again, that our bond and commitment to one another has just been strengthened — independent of our business relationships. I yearn for our next gathering.

The longer I ride motorcycles and write about firearms, the more I realize there’s a tangible link between the two. Whether it’s the feeling of freedom brought about by the wind in one’s hair (metaphorically) or by taking responsibility for one’s own safety, there’s a common thread between bikers and gunnies. Spending time with like-minded enthusiasts on both the range and the open road is a marvelous tonic for the soul in today’s tumultuous age. It’s even better when touring some of the most majestic backdrops one can imagine in this great land of ours.

Motoschützen for me was about being “the prospect”.

Jokes aside. Even though being my first time attending Motoschützen, my perception is that it was all about fellowshipping and developing friendships that will last more then just a once a year, 5 day out of the office ride.

Great group, great scenery and great memories.

MotoSchutzen is the intersection of 2 passions for me.  I love to ride motorcycles and I love firearms.  Gathering people with these common interests is a recipe for an awesome time.  As a manufacturer, it’s great to connect with media on our products and the shared connection of motorcycles!
